How do I get a quote for conservation work?

Please contact us via email to discuss any restoration/conservation work that you may be interested in having done.

We are able to give a guide estimate from photos which have been emailed to us or posted. If you are interested in going ahead with the work then we are more than happy to give a more accurate estimate once the books have been seen by us.

Useful questions and answers if you are considering having books repaired:

Can I bring the book to the bindery for assessment? Yes, please contact us to arrange such a visit.

Do you visit customers in their own homes / place of business in order to assess books and to give estimates?
This is possible depending upon location – please contact us.

Should you wish to email us photos of books which require work, it would be useful to also know some, or all of the following information in order to give the most accurate estimate of cost of repair possible.

General

Size of book
Covering material – leather – calf/goatskin, vellum, cloth, marbled or other paper?
Do you wish the book to be housed in a specially made box for protection?

Condition of leaves

Extent of any foxing/spotting
Any tears to pages
Any loose sections
Soundness of sewing structure
Any previous unsightly repairs

Condition of binding

Boards detached/ nearly detached?
Any missing areas of covering material
Missing labels?
Extent of damage to corners/caps etc
End bands present?

Once the treatment necessary and estimated cost has been agreed we will be able to give you an estimated time for completion of the work. Obviously it would be very useful to us to know if there are any deadlines which we will need to strictly adhere to.
